DESCRIPTION:Provincial Holodomor Commemoration / Wreath Laying at the Holodomor Statue\nTuesday\, November 21\, 2023\, 12 NOON\nRotunda\, Legislative Building\, Regina \nYou are invited to attend the Provincial Commemoration of the 90th Anniversary Ukrainian Famine Genocide (Holodomor) being held this year on November 21 at noon in the Rotunda of the Legislative Building in Regina.  \nFollowing the service\, there will be an opportunity to lay a wreath / flowers at the “Bitter Memories of Childhood” statue.\n \n——————————————————————- \nHolodomor 1932 – 1933 \nOn November 7th\, 2003 the following joint statement by 65 UN member states was adopted by the UN General Assembly: \n“The Great Famine of 1932-1933 in Ukraine (Holodomor)\, which took from 7 million to 10 million innocent lives\, and became a national tragedy for the Ukrainian people.” \nIn the early 1930s\, in the very heart of Europe – in a region considered to be the Soviet Union’s breadbasket – Stalin’s Communist regime committed a horrendous act of genocide against millions of Ukrainians. \nThe Communist government imposed exorbitant grain quotas\, in some cases confiscating supplies down to the last seed. Farm animals and all edible vegetables were also confiscated. \nThe Ukrainian populated regions were isolated by armed units\, so that people could not go in search of food to the neighbouring Soviet regions where food was readily available. The result was the Ukrainian genocide of  1932-1933\, known as the Holodomor\, or extermination by famine. \nOn May 7\, 2008 the Saskatchewan Legislature passed Bill 40\,  the Ukrainian Famine-Genocide (Holodomor) Memorial Day Act and sent the Bill for assent\, making Saskatchewan the first province in Canada to recognize the Holodomor as genocide.

We are happy to announce that we are going to meet at North Gate Mall at 4:00 pm on Wednesday\, August 24th! \nThen leaving North Gate Mall at 4:30 pm\, travelling down Albert St. to the Legislative Building. \nAfter getting to the Legislative Building\, we are going to sing Ukrainian National Anthem there and take a group photo. \nAfter\, as it was planned earlier\, everyone is welcome to join us at UNF Regina hall for the Ukrainian Independence Day concert!💙💛 \nP.S. Please decorate your vehicles the way you would like to with Ukrainian symbols\, flags\, blue and yellow colours\, etc. \nСвяткування Дня Незалежності України! \nШановні українці Реджайни та околиці\, запрошуємо всіх відсвяткувати 31 річницю з Дня Незалежності України разом з нами! DESCRIPTION:The prairies are home to many of the 1.4 million Canadians with Ukrainian ancestry – the largest community outside of Russia and Ukraine itself. Saskatchewan has felt the impacts of the recent attacks on Ukraine and stands with those affected. \nThe ongoing conflict has widespread and devastating humanitarian impacts. In addition to international support for Ukraine\, local support is needed as we welcome Ukrainians into our communities as they flee war and conflict. Stand with Ukraine Benefit Day is an opportunity to stand in solidarity and in peace with the people of Ukraine and support by hosting this benefit to raise much-needed funds which will stay local for those people of Ukraine coming to our province who will need support in the months to come. \nThe Ukrainian\, Polish and Hungarian communities are joining together to host a “mini-mosaic” in which artisans\, dance\, music\, and speakers will be highlighted\, and food will be available. There will be opportunities for donations at the door instead of a ticket fee\, raffle prizes\, and 50/50 to help contribute to the overall donation made to the Ukrainian Canadian Congress – Saskatchewan in support of their efforts to respond to this situation.
